Graduate Assistant Center for Disability Access

Full-time (20 Hours Per Week), 4 Positions Available

Primary Purpose

Assist with day-to-day operations of the Center for Disability Access (CDA) to support 麻豆原创 students with disabilities. Provide direct service to students with disabilities to help them access the academic community at 麻豆原创. Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities and encourage students toward self-advocacy and self-determination.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in collaborative efforts to provide purposeful student outreach and case management support for at risk students, providing referrals to campus partners as needed for academic success.
  • Participate in weekly student case review team meetings to discuss CDA student needs and response strategies, ensuring continuity and consistency of services and supports.
  • Effectively communicate with faculty and students regarding test accommodations and the process of requesting an exam be administered with Center for Disability Access.
  • Maintain up-to-date confidential and accurate student records and consult with professional staff as needed.
  • Assist with test administration and proctoring for students with disabilities using AIM system and ensure exam security and confidentiality is maintained; verify proper methods of delivery based on the approved accommodations. Scan/upload completed exams back to faculty.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Assist in the scheduling management tracker for students with communication access needs.
  • Assist with the coordination of the software notetaking program GLEAN throughout the semester and provide education to students on various forms of assistive technology.
  • Assist in the process of managing note taking accommodations by coordinating the recruitment of notetakers, reaching out to faculty members to aid in recruitment efforts and monitoring the AIM note taking portal.
  • Attend trainings to stay current on best practices and methods for academic intervention/coaching and learning strategies.
  • Assist with preparing marketing for CDA sponsored events.
  • Participate in campus-wide programming as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate CDA programming and events.
  • Assist in maintaining consistent front desk and phone coverage for the CDA.
  • Other tasks as determined by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Center for Disability Access.

Qualifications

The GA must be admitted into a graduate degree program at 麻豆原创: Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Education students are preferred. Other programs will also be considered when combined with relevant experience. To be eligible for a Full Time GA position, students must considered by the College as having full-time status with a minimum of six credits each semester.

Candidates must be well organized, customer-service oriented/student-centered, have the ability to work well with a diverse student population and must communicate effectively, orally, and in writing. Knowledge of and proficiency with computer software applications (Microsoft Office programs) is required. Interested candidates must be highly reliable and able to craft a fully in-person schedule that is a (20) hour work week which will include two 8:30am-4:30pm shifts per week (Monday-Friday).

Student Outcomes & Contribution to Professional Development

Students will learn about the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and how they are applied to develop services and support for students in a postsecondary education setting. Students will cultivate personal problem solving skills, interpersonal skills, learn about disability access and inclusion, assistive technology, and have the opportunity to work with a diverse student population. GAs participate in professional development (local workshops and/or webinars) related to best practices in the field.
