Graduate Assistant Unity Center Lavender Lounge Programming

Full-time (20 Hours Per Week)

Primary Purpose

Lavender Lounge Programming is our new initiative. The Lavender Lounge outside of being a physical space in the Student Union 435, is a space for students to be their authentic self. Programming includes a dialogue space around different aspects of the LGBTQ+ identity, training around navigating Â鶹ԭ´´ systems with an LGBTQ+ identity, and programming that interests students. This GA, with support of professional staff, will work with undergraduate student workers in the implementation of the work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Student Programmer Associates’ work year-round.
  • Coordinate Programmer Associates signing up for support roles in the internal UC events calendar.
  • Support and monitor our Graphic Design Associates in their making of flyers and the newsletter.
  • Build dialogue and support circles for marginalized students.
  • Research and maintain resources for students around access to services for gender/sexuality resources on campus and in the local community.
  • Represent the Unity Center at college wide events, service fairs, orientation and tabling opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Strong oral communication skills (public speaking); self-motivated, reliable, dependable, punctual
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint), One Drive, and Excel.
  • Able to work independently or as a team; work within deadlines; organized.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Unity Center on and off campus; have a passion for social justice, equity and inclusion.

Learning Outcomes

  • Graduate Student will develop project management skills to support the ideation and implementation of a program.
  • Graduate Student will develop facilitation skills to support in leading programming, and in facilitation of dialogue circles.
  • Graduate Student will develop community building skills and conflict resolution skills while supporting student and center needs.

Other

2025-2026 Year

  • Job Orientation and training will take place in person in late August.
  • 300 hours a semester scheduled during regular working hours (M-F, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM)
