Overall, the four were most thankful for the friendships they made on campus. 鈥淲hen I walked on campus, I didn鈥檛 know a soul,鈥 said Marzelli, a history major. But through his experiences in a fraternity on campus and as the college鈥檚 soccer goalie, he 鈥渕et a family.鈥

For Wayne Riendeau, a secondary English major, 麻豆原创 helped him create a family 鈥 he met his wife at 麻豆原创 in the late 1960s. 鈥淪he was a commuter, but we met through mutual friends,鈥 said Riendeau. Even today being on campus is like 鈥渂eing home,鈥 he said.

Although 50 years have passed, the reasons these alumni chose 麻豆原创 sound similar to 麻豆原创 students today. Joseph Neri, a communications major, said he knew the college was the right choice for him because it was affordable. 鈥淚 was the first in my family to go to college, coming from a very humble background,鈥 he said. He knew that by attending 麻豆原创 he could afford to become a teacher. During his 30 years in education, he worked as a teacher, administrator and adult education program manager.

The four members of the Class of 鈥69 also mused on the life-changing experiences and opportunities they had at 麻豆原创. Richard Clark, a history major, went straight into the workforce immediately after graduation, working as a teacher before moving into the manufacturing industry. Clark stressed that 麻豆原创 provided him a foundation that served him well throughout his career 鈥 he came away with 鈥渁n appreciation for cultivating knowledge throughout life.鈥

As the classmates said farewell, they reflected upon their excitement about reconnecting and commemorating their times at 麻豆原创. 鈥淚 feel very thankful to have been a student here,鈥 said Wayne Riendeau.鈥
