Elementary Education BS to Special Education MED
The BS-to-MED is an early admission option into the Special Education MED, with concentration in urban multicultural special education. It is designed for students studying special education in the Elementary Education BS program who would like to be eligible to teach English as a second language in Rhode Island.
Invaluable Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- design and implement standards-based ESL, literacy and content instruction
- provide culturally and linguistically responsive practices in MTSS, special education evaluation (e.g., reducing overrepresentation of culturally and linguistically diverse students in special education) and IEP development
- apply knowledge of school, district, and governmental policies and legislation to advocate for culturally and linguistically diverse students
- understand English language structures, language acquisitions, and the socio-cultural contexts in which English is learned as an additional language
- interact professionally and with culturally and linguistically diverse students, families, community members, and their colleagues
How to Apply
Candidates may apply for conditional admission after completing 60 undergraduate credits. Admission requirements are the same as for the MED in Special Education, with concentration in urban multicultural education.​â¶Ä‹
